Our Brother in Christ, Deantin Guerra

On October 25, 2018, the founder of Faith Ministry and our dear brother Deantin Guerra was called home to the Lord. His family and all of us at Faith Ministry miss him so much; many of you also knew him well, and we know that your hearts are also heavy this week. In these difficult times, it brings us peace knowing Deantin is with his Lord; he’s probably teaching “Dame La Mano” to all the angels up in heaven!

The legacy Deantin left is impossible to quantify. He touched countless lives while here on this earth, and he left us with a wonderful example of how to love others in Christ. The best way we know how to honor him is to continue doing the work he started 24 years ago, making a difference and sharing the love of God, one starfish at a time.

We will be hosting a memorial service for Deantin at our church in Reynosa on Friday, November 2, at 11:00am. If you are able, we would love to have you there to celebrate Deantin’s life; you can find details on our website. If you cannot attend, we plan to stream the service live on our Facebook page.

Mission Work Groups

This month, we hosted three groups from Indiana, North Carolina and Virginia, and built four houses! As our executive director David always says, the houses are a great excuse to get teams down here to do what’s more important: building relationships and showing the love of Christ to our brothers and sisters.

Celebrating 24 Years

In October 1994, Deantin Guerra founded Faith Ministry with the mission and vision of meeting the physical and spiritual needs of his Mexican brothers and sisters on the border. This month, we commemorated our 24th anniversary with a few words from nurse Betty about the start of the ministry with Deantin, a special prayer over our staff, and of course, cake! At the time we marked the anniversary, Deantin was at home and not feeling well, and his absence was certainly felt. Now, we feel his absence even stronger, but we have the faith and vision that he taught us to have, and that will keep us moving forward!

Prayer Requests

We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:

  • The family and loved ones of our founder Deantin, specifically his wife Lidia and his children Annette, Richard and Joseph and their families, as well as the staff of our ministry, several of whom worked with Deantin for many years.
  • Ezequiel, our retired foreman, and his wife Petra still need our prayers for their health and for peace in difficult times.
  • Dora, our caretaker in Reynosa, may need surgery on her wrist after a fall earlier this year; pray for her discretion and for comfort and peace.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12

On the Blog

Written by Deantin a few years ago, a reflection of starting Faith Ministry back in 1994:

“Our next thought was, ‘How are we going to do it? We have no money or name!’ Someone came up with an idea and shouted, ‘We have no money, but we have FAITH! Let’s call it: ‘Faith Ministry/Ministerio de FE.” And thus, Faith Ministry/MDF, Inc. was born!”
