Progress in the Garden & Woodworking Shop
This week, we harvested tons of corn that was planted by a team from North Carolina over the summer! We are also installing shades to cover a section of the garden to protect crops from the hot summer sun here in Mexico. As we continue learning and trying new things, we are excited to do even more in this garden next year!
We also began using our woodworking shop to create beautiful wooden benches as housewarming gifts for the families receiving homes. Groups can choose to “purchase” a bench for their family; they then decorate the back of the bench, and our staff and volunteers build the bench together to give to the family. Groups have loved participating in this program, and families have loved the benches!
Christmas is Coming!
Every year, we celebrate the holiday season with Christmas fiestas in Reynosa and Miguel Alemán for the community and the families we work with. We’ll be having those fiestas December 15-18 for the staff and volunteers, the kids, and the church congregations. We’ll distribute toys to the children and meal packages to the families, as well as eat, celebrate and worship together. Our prayer is that for the families in our community, these fiestas would lift the burden of providing food and presents for their loved ones and allow them to focus on the true reason for the season: Jesus and his unconditional love for us.
Thank you to those who have already sent toys for the fiestas! It’s not too late to support the fiestas by making a donation (faithministry.org/give) or to come down and participate! Email Colleen at colleen@faithministry.org if you’d like to come to Mexico and help with the fiestas.
Come to Mexico in 2017!
If you or someone you know is looking for a missions opportunity, get in touch! We would love to work with you and your group. Spending a week here with a mission work group is an unforgettable experience. Not only will you build a house for a family in need and serve your brothers and sisters in Mexico, but you’ll develop deep and meaningful relationships that are unlike any others. Don’t miss this opportunity to share and show the love of Christ to others! Check out our mission work group schedule to find a week that works for your team, and email Colleen for more information or to reserve a week!
Prayer Requests
We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:
- Nurse Betty, as she begins a month-long sabbatical for rest and relaxation. Pray for her family and for her health, that she would enjoy this time away and return recharged in the new year.
- Milagros, the 7-year-old daughter of Casa #7 of this year, is currently in the hospital with severe health complications stemming from her premature birth. Pray for healing for Milagros (her name in Spanish means “miracles”), for wisdom for the doctors, and for comfort and peace for her entire family.
- The daughter-in-law of one of our volunteers, Raquel, is currently in the hospital with heart complications; she is also pregnant. Pray for her healing, as well as comfort for Raquel and their family.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
