Visits to Reynosa

This month, we were visited in Reynosa by our friends across the border at McAllen First United Methodist for their monthly morning of volunteering with us! They helped with our children’s nutrition program and delivered grocery packages to families in the community, and we shared a devotion service and delicious meal together. We were also visited by our good friend Pastor Nathan and new friends from Harrison United Methodist in Charlotte, NC. They spent a morning with us in Reynosa before traveling to visit with our partners at the Berea Bible Institute in Monterrey.

Visits like these remind us how important relationships are to the ministry and the families we work with – sharing and showing the love of God to one another and to our brothers and sisters is what we’re all about! If you’re interested in visiting us and/or bringing a team to work with us, we’d love to have you. Get in touch with Colleen for more information!

Getting Ready for Summer

This summer, we’ll be hosting five groups building eight houses, and we are ready for it! This month, our first summer intern, Kate, arrived to Reynosa. She comes to us from Myers Park United Methodist in Charlotte, NC, and just finished her first year at the University of Georgia. She is with us for four weeks, and two more interns will be joining us throughout the summer. We have been prepping the first houses, and by next week, we’ll have our first team with us — we are excited!

Partnership with Berea Bible Institute

For many years, Faith Ministry has enjoyed a partnership with the Berea Bible Institute in Monterrey, and we have made a concerted effort in the last year to strengthen that partnership. In March, several of their students visited us to help with the Deantin community center roof pour, and we recently welcomed two new interns from the school who will be working with us on the weekends through July.

This month, we had the opportunity to visit Berea not once, but twice. Early in the month, David, Colleen, and Yadira visited as part of the process of bringing in new interns from the school for weekend positions and year-long positions and had the opportunity to share more about the ministry. Later in the month, our good friend Nathan and our new friends from Harrison United Methodist in Charlotte, NC, visited. Nathan taught a few classes to the students, and they volunteered in Berea’s efforts to serve the migrant community in Monterrey. As always, our visits were a wonderful time of fellowship and partnership!

Staff Health

The health of our staff is of the utmost importance to us and is why we developed our staff health initiative within the last few years. This month, we had a visit from Pablo, the director of the Berea Bible Institute in Monterrey, to give a spiritual health seminar to our staff. We also had a visit from Tony, who is a psychologist and educator, and she provided our staff and constructions volunteers in Reynosa with a talk about the work environment and how we relate to each other. She helped each of our staff members identify who they are within the Faith Ministry team, and she made observations about how they communicate with the people around them and those they interact with on a daily basis.

Prayer Requests

We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:

  • Dr. Joaquin, our former doctor in Reynosa, who is going through difficult health issues. Pray for his healing and peace.
  • Don José, our gardener, woodworker, and nightguard in Naranjito, who continues finding the treatment plan for his health issues. Pray for guidance and comfort for him and his family.
  • Omar, who continues to battle a wide variety of health issues. He remains in Monterrey, and we ask for your continued prayers for his health, wellbeing, and recovery, as well as for his comfort and peace.
  • The health of our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and friends around the world

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
