Two Teams, Three Houses, Four Roofs
We had two teams work with us in Reynosa this month – one from Austin, TX, and another from Indianapolis, IN. Between the two, they built three houses and poured four roofs, which is no easy feat as the temperatures start to heat up down here in Mexico! One of the teams included families with children ranging from third to twelfth grade, and it was a pleasure to work the kids and see the joy and open hearts they shared with our community.
We still have some spots open for this summer and fall! If you’re interested in bringing a team to volunteer with us in Mexico, get in touch. You can check out our schedule online to find a week that works for your team and email Colleen for more information!
A Visit from the Board of Directors
This month, we were blessed with a visit from our Board of Directors! This group of people guide the ministry and encourage the staff through monthly conference calls and biannual visits to Texas and Mexico. This time, we went to Brownsville to visit with our founder Deantin and his wife Lidia; we prayed over Deantin, who was recently diagnosed with cancer, and spent time chatting with them. We spent two days in Reynosa, where we gave Carlos’ pastoral house a fresh coat of paint, visited the Naranjito garden and enjoyed a delicious meal with the staff, where we celebrated Omar’s 10-year anniversary with the ministry!
Teaching Skills to be a Foreman
A couple years ago, we launched a new program under the umbrella of our skills training program: foreman apprenticeship! Our first apprentice, Julio, graduated last year and is now on staff as a construction foreman. We currently have two apprentices enrolled in the program: Jesus in Reynosa and Cristian in Miguel Alemán. Both are doing well and learning a lot under the guidance of our construction supervisors, Angel and Luz. It is our hope that the skills they are learning will open doors for them and take them far!
Prayer Requests
We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:
- Deantin, our beloved founder, who was diagnosed with cancer this month. Pray for his healing and for him and his wife Lidia as he begins the treatment process.
- Dora, our caretaker in Reynosa, who is still recovering from a fractured wrist after a fall last month. She has a few more weeks in a splint and is recovering well. Pray for her as she continues to heal.
- Luz, our foreman in Miguel Alemán, who is still dealing with issues with his eyes. Pray for his health and comfort.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12
We had our friends from Scotland in Reynosa this month! They make the long trek “across the pond” every year to work with their friends from Indianapolis and their amigos in Mexico. We love having their joy and laughter here with us!
