Mission Work Groups
We had three groups this month that built a combined four houses for families here in Reynosa! They also had a chance to help with our children’s nutrition program and grocery package delivery, as well as hang out with our sewing program participants, learn some recipes from our cook Marisela, and even pour part of the cement ring on the Deantin community center. Most importantly, they built strong and unforgettable friendships with their brothers and sisters in Mexico and shared together in the love of God.
We are already scheduling teams for 2024, so if you are interested in bringing a team to Reynosa, check out our calendar online to find a week that works for you and get in touch with Colleen for more information. We can’t wait to work with you!
Special Visits
We had an intern with us this month for a couple weeks to help out with the mission work groups, and we loved having her! We are hoping to ramp up our college leadership program even more for summer 2024, so high school seniors and college students, stay tuned!
We also had a visit this month from our local partners at First United Methodist in McAllen! They delivered grocery packages, helped at the children’s nutrition program, worshipped with our staff and volunteers, and shared a delicious meal together. We absolutely love these monthly day trips, and we would love to get more local churches involved! If you or someone you know is in the Rio Grande Valley and would like to volunteer with us, get in touch with Colleen.
Providing Necessary Nutrition
Our nutrition programs in Miguel Alemán are going strong! We deliver grocery packages each month to families in need and invite children from the community twice a week to our main complex for a meal and activities. We also deliver meals door-to-door every Saturday in a rural community called Guardados de Arriba. The key to these programs staying consistent is monthly donations from people like you. If you are able, sign up for a monthly donation and make a difference throughout the year! ❤️
A New Beginning
Sharing and showing the love of God to our brothers and sisters in Mexico has been at the heart of Faith Ministry’s work since it was founded in 1994, and our churches in Reynosa and Miguel Alemán have long been a part of that. Many of you may or may not be aware that for over 20 years, our churches have been overseen by a presbytery located in Mexico City. In order to bring all of the ministry’s programs under one roof and to be able reach even more people with the gospel, Faith Ministry has made the decision to separate from the presbytery and step into a new chapter.
This new beginning for Faith Ministry includes intentionally creating a spiritual growth program, which will include many areas which you already familiar with — praying over families as we deliver groceries door-to-door, sharing Bible lessons with the children in the nutrition program, providing spiritual support and guidance to those in our community, worship services and activities, and more. With this program, we don’t want the gospel to only exist in a church building on Sundays; we want to take God’s love to the people where they are.
We appreciate your prayers as we enter this new phase, and we know that God is working right alongside us. No matter what, the heart of Faith Ministry remains the same – faith working through love to build God’s kingdom and create environments where all people have the opportunity to meet and know Jesus Christ.
Prayer Requests
We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:
- Families along the border in Mexico and the U.S. who are suffering as a result of the extreme heat hitting our area during this season; pray for their safety, protection, and wellbeing.
- Pablo, the director of our partner Berea Bible Institute, who continues to deal with health issues. Pray for his healing and strength.
- Omar, who continues to struggle with a wide variety of health issues stemming from his fall and subsequent knee surgery last year, as well as a foot infection and subsequent surgery in December. He remains in Monterrey, and we ask for your continued prayers for his health, wellbeing, and recovery, as well as for his comfort and peace.
- The health of our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and friends around the world
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12
