Seven Houses in Two Weeks!
Yes, you read that right! This month, within two weeks, we built seven houses for seven deserving families. One week, we had two groups, both from North Carolina and each building two houses. The next, we had a large youth group, also from North Carolina, building three houses. Not only was it an honor to be able to bless seven families in that short amount of time, it was also a ton of fun, and each team volunteer shared the joy and love of the Lord with all of us!
If you would like to bring a team down to Mexico, we are already scheduling teams for 2018! Check out our mission work group schedule to find a week that works for your team, and email Colleen for more information or to reserve a week!
A Graduation and English Classes
We’ve had three summer interns for parts of this month – Emily, from Indianapolis, IN; Lizzy, from Austin, TX; and Andrew, from Charlotte, NC – and they’ve been able to participate in lots of activities with us! Earlier this month, Emily had the chance to attend the high school graduation of the student she and her parents have been sponsoring for the past three years through our scholarship program. It was a wonderful experience for Emily to be able to witness her student and friend achieve such an important academic goal!
Lizzy, who was here for two weeks, is a Girl Scout, and during her time here this month, she taught English classes as part of her Gold Service Project. Our staff and volunteers participated, as well as students from our scholarship program. Everyone loved being able to learn some English and share what they learned with the mission work groups! Read more about Lizzy’s classes here (and thanks to Emily for writing!).
Update from Miguel Alemán
The staff and volunteers in Miguel Alemán continue to make great progress on the community center. They are stuccoing and painting the outside and inside, and the electricity has officially been installed! We’re excited to see this dream taking shape, and we look forward to the day when we’ll be able to open its doors to the community, serving others and bringing glory to God.
Prayer Requests
We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:
- PRAISE! Beto, one of our long-term construction volunteers, had surgery this month, and everything went great! Please continue praying for him as he recuperates.
- Carmen, the wife of Benito, our pastor in Miguel Alemán, has been dealing with health problems this month. Please pray for her healing and recovery and for peace for their family.
- Ezequiel, one of our former construction foremen and longest employees, continues to suffer from a number of health issues. Pray for his healing and comfort.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
