Building & Beautifying
This month, we hosted a group from Indianapolis who not only built two houses, but also did several other projects to beautify our community, including painting a new mural in Naranjito and planting new flowers and greenery! It was the largest group we have hosted since pre-pandemic with 17 of them coming to volunteer with us, and everything went smoothly. Our summer and fall schedule for 2022 are filling up, so if you are interested in bringing a group, check out our calendar to see what weeks are open and get in touch with Colleen for more information. We would love to have you!
Music Program Visit
We were blessed this month with a visit from our Board member Dave and his wife Patty! Patty and Dave have been involved with Faith Ministry for years, and as musicians, they have been integral in us forming our children’s music program. You may recognize them from the singalong videos we’ve posted in the past couple years. During their visit, we were able to inventory our music equipment in Naranjito and Reynosa, meet with Pastor Carlos and our new friend Julio, a talented local musician who is helping us teach classes, and jam out to some music together. With their help, we have a lot of exciting plans ahead for our music program this year!
Getting Things Done
During the year in Reynosa, our construction schedule often gets filled up with building houses and working on miscellaneous projects, which leaves little time for important tasks like major maintenance upgrades and special buildings like the Deantin Community Center. So, at the beginning of this month, we formed a temporary second construction crew to fill the gaps and help us get things done! The crew is led by our construction supervisor Luz from Miguel Alemán (center) and is made up of three workers he brought from Miguel Alemán and our own worker Poncho, who we built a house for in Reynosa in October.
They hit the ground running as soon as they started and have already made significant progress on several projects, and we are excited to see them continue to work hard next month!
Travel to North Carolina
This past weekend, our executive director David traveled to Charlotte, NC, where he visited with old friends and made new ones! On Sunday, he spoke at Christ Lutheran’s three services about Faith Ministry and the work we do here on the border in Mexico (you can check out the replay of the services on YouTube). He also had the chance to see good friends, including current and former Board members, and spend valuable time with them.
Both David and Colleen are available to travel to your church or area and share about the ministry! Get in touch, and we can plan a visit. We would love to see you!
Upcoming Trips:
- May 13-16: Colleen will be in Indianapolis and speaking at Old Bethel UMC’s Mission Sunday service on Sunday, May 15
Prayer Requests
We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:
- The family of our staff member José, whose mother-in-law passed away this month; pray for their peace and comfort during this time
- Our staff member Emanuel and his wife, who suffered a devastating pregnancy loss this month; pray that they have comfort and peace during this difficult time
- The health of our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and friends around the world
- All of those currently being affected by the war in Ukraine; our hearts are with them as we pray for peace
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
