Celebrating Deantin’s Birthday

Deantin’s birthday was always a big deal in Mexico, and our staff would go all out to make him feel celebrated on that special day. On August 16, Deantin would have turned 80 years old, and we didn’t want to let that day go by without honoring him. Our first celebration was in Reynosa with our staff, where we had a carne asada (grilled meat) and, of course, cake! We shared memories of Deantin and the ways that we had celebrated his birthday with him in the past. The fiesta continued to the McAllen office with the visit of Deantin’s wife Lidia and his family Hilda, Liz, and Joyce. We had Deantin’s favorite, tamales, and… more cake! We laughed and reminisced on what we missed about Deantin and remembered all the ways he used to show Jesus’ love to those around him.

Happy birthday, brother Deantin! We miss you!

Nourishing Souls in Miguel Alemán

Our programs in Miguel Alemán have been going strong! We continue to build houses, support children through the scholarship program and a foreman apprenticeship through the skills training program, and host nutrition programs, in addition to the church and its activities. The mission in a remote area of town called Guardados de Arribas has kept going with kids coming each Saturday for a meal, a craft, songs, and a Bible lesson. Our staff missionary Isai has been going to Miguel Alemán on the weekends to help out Pastor Benito and his wife Carmen with that program, as well as other church activities.

There have been a few violent incidents lately in Miguel Alemán, so we ask for your prayers for peace throughout the town. Our staff and activities have not been affected, but we continue to pray for the families living in our community, as well as the staff who works there daily.

Prayer Requests

We believe in the power of prayer, so please join us in praying for:

  • Peace over the town of Miguel Alemán, as well as the entire border region. Pray for our staff and volunteers, as well as the families living in our community.
  • The mother of Betty, our nurse in Reynosa, who continues to deal with health problems. Pray for her healing and strength, as well as peace and comfort for Betty and her family.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12

25 Years in Photos & Videos

To celebrate our 25th anniversary, we’ll be sharing “throwback” photos and videos throughout the year. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more!

Here’s a great shot of David and Deantin at Faith Ministry’s 10th anniversary fiesta back in 2004! At the time, Deantin was executive director, and David had been working less than two years as associate director.

To us, it’s an honor to now be making preparations for our 25th anniversary fiesta. We wish Deantin was still here to mark the occasion with us, but we know that he’s with us in spirit. Glory to God, Gloria a Dios!
