April News: First program at the community center!

First Program at Deantin Community Center

The Deantin community center is officially open to programming! This month, we moved our infant feeding program in Naranjito into the community center, and nurse Juli saw her first babies there. This is an exciting milestone, and we can’t wait to open up more programs here very soon!

Mission Work Groups

This month, we hosted three church groups – Raeford Presbyterian from Raeford, NC; First Presbyterian from Lumberton, NC; and Harrison United Methodist from Charlotte, NC, who is currently with us this week. In total, they will have built two houses, will have poured two roofs, served meals to the kids, and delivered grocery packages, but most importantly, they formed relationships and shared in the love of God together with their Mexican brothers and sisters.

Announcing… A Mission Trip Open for All!

We’ve heard you! Those of you with busy schedules but a desire to volunteer in Mexico have been asking for a shortened experience. Those of you who feel like laying block is not your thing have been asking for more opportunities outside of building a house. We have been listening and brainstorming and have put together a shortened mission experience for EVERYONE!

Join us this June for a Wednesday-Sunday mission trip! There will be opportunities for everyone. If you’d like to join in on construction, we will be building Casa #12 for a wonderful family. If you’d like to spend the whole time delivering grocery packages and hanging out with kids, we’ve got you! If you’ve got a skill you’d like to share, we would love to arrange that. There is something for everyone!

DATES: Wednesday, June 25, to Sunday, June 29

GETTING HERE: Get yourself to McAllen, TX, by 5:30pm on June 25 (plane, train, or automobile!), and we’ll take care of the rest

COST: $475 (includes $50 nonrefundable registration fee) – cost includes your lodging Wed-Sat in Reynosa, your transportation to and around Mexico, your meals plus water & ice in Mexico, additional supplies, and a t-shirt of your choice

Whether you want to try out a Faith Ministry trip for the first time, scout it out for your group back home, or you’ve been before and want to come back, this trip is for you!

Staff Health

This month, as part of our staff health initiative, we enjoyed a healthy cooking workshop for our staff in Reynosa! We have a wonderful partnership with a local dietitian, Sindy, who hosted the workshop along with a local chef, Isabel. Chef Isabel taught our staff some delicious recipes that use just a few products and are quick and easy to make for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. It was a fascinating and tasty learning experience for us all!

In Case You Missed It

April was a month of celebrations with Easter, birthdays, and even administrative professionals’ day! But today, April 30, is a special day specifically in Mexico, Día del Niño, or Children’s Day. Día del Niño is celebrated every April in Mexico to remind us of the importance of honoring and protecting childhood. Our children’s programs in Reynosa and Miguel Alemán will be hosting celebrations throughout the week!
